Fascinating story of how a manufacturing company was started.
Have you heard of “death by coconut”? I’ve clicked around the interwebs, and I’m convinced that most claims of people dying from being conked on the head by a coconut are urban legends.
In the oil and gas industry, however, it’s definitely not an urban legend that every year workers get injured—or killed—by falling objects.
There are numerous kinds of objects that can fall from dangerous heights, causing grave safety risks, including:
- Fixtures
- Security/CCTV cameras
- Hammers
- Speakers
- Beacons
Various things can cause an object to fall, including:
- Human error
- Strong winds
- Saltwater corrosion
- Vibration
- Poor maintenance
- Incorrect installations
I recently learned some fascinating details about this niche area of safety while talking with Mike Rice, CEO of Dropsafe, a company that specializes in mesh-security and mesh-safety products (all of which protect personnel from drop hazards).
Be sure to check out my intriguing conversation with Mike. In it we discuss the origins of Dropsafe.
